Encaustic on painting plate
Encaustic - painting
Are special encaustic wax paints that are heated with a painting iron and applied to the painting surface. The encaustic painting has a very long history.
In modern encaustic painting, an electric pen with various attachments, a hot plate, hot air dryer or propane gas burner can apply the encaustic wax paint to the painting surface. As a painting surface are suitable special painting cards, canvases, MDF boards.
Special effects can be achieved when painting in encaustic.
Acrylic paint or oil paints and wax paints work well together
In the encaustic shellac technique, shellac is applied to a picture in encaustic, then burned with sufficient distance with the hot air dryer or propane burner. This creates a tear effect.
When painting on a wooden base, the edges are masked with masking tape so that the wax does not run down the sides. To ensure that each individual layer of wax bonds with each other, blow dry with a hot air dryer at a distance of approx. 25 cm.
Allow the wax layer to cool before applying the next wax layer.
